Reba McEntire and longtime husband Narvel Blackstock, who is also her manager, announced Monday that they were breaking up.
"In a joint statement, Narvel Blackstock and Reba McEntire have announced that they have been separated for the past few months, after 26 years of marriage," read the
announcement on McEntire's website, never mentioning the word "divorce."
The best-selling McEntire has been married to Blackstock, who began as a guitar player in her band, for 26 years,
Rolling Stone magazine reported. Their son, Shelby Blackstock, is an Indy Car racer.
"Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so. They have asked that you respect their privacy during this time," the statement continued.
Narvel Blackstock and his son from a previous marriage, Brandon, work at McEntire's company, Starstruck Entertainment. Brandon manages the career of his wife, pop-and-country superstar Kelly Clarkson.
During the 1980s and 90s, McEntire scored twenty-two No. 1 hits and released five gold albums, six platinum albums, two double-platinum albums, four triple-platinum albums, a quadruple-platinum album, and a quintuple-platinum album,
noted CMT.
Notably, Starstruck Entertainment also manages country superstar Blake Shelton, who announced in July that he and his wife, country singer Miranda Lambert, also were divorcing.
"We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues," the couple wrote in a joint statement about their breakup,
reported E! News on July 21. "Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."
Pop star Gwen Stefani, of No Doubt, also recently announced with husband Gavin Rossdale that they had filed for divorce in Los Angeles after 13 years of marriage. Shelton and Stefani worked together as judges on the NBC singing competition show "The Voice," reported E! News.
"I obviously have a close connection with Blake...Sad times," Carson Daly, host of "The Voice" told the "Today" show recently. "Yesterday what was really sad about this is the idea of love and marriage seems to be a dying art for a lot of people...people were so saddened by that news."
