Reggie Osse, “Combat Jack” the renowned hip-hop podcaster and blogger, died on Wednesday after fighting a short battle with colon cancer, Billboard magazine reported. He was 48.
The lawyer-turned-podcaster announced his illness in October via a Twitter post in which he said, “I was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. I was rushed to the hospital, had some pretty severe surgery. I’m on the mend right now. I’m about to jump on this journey to health with chemo and alternative medicine.”
Osse urged fans to take care of their health, reassuringly adding that he was “going nowhere,” and that “we’re gonna keep doing this. Keep rocking with us.”
The podcaster was well-known in the hip-hop community for his contributions to the industry as an editor, attorney and blogger.
According to CBS News, he first became known after providing legal assistance to Jay-Z, Capone-n-Noreaga and Roc-A-Fella records during the 1990s.
He later retired from law but stayed firmly planted in the music scene as an executive at MTV and managing editor of The Source magazine.
In 2010 he launched his podcast, "The Combat Jack Show,” which became a pioneering show in the hip-hop scene.
Earlier this month "The Combat Jack Show” producer Matt Nelson ran the Intergalactic Half Marathon to raise awareness on cancer, breaking the record and coming first in the process.
He shared a photo on Twitter of himself wearing a “combat cancer” shirt, urging followers to take their health seriously.
