Rob Ford: 'Arrest Me,' He Dares Police Chief Bill Blair

By    |   Friday, 28 February 2014 02:34 PM EST

Controversial Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has picked a fight with the city's police chief over the costs of tailing him last fall and has urged Chief Bill Blair to reveal the expenses.

"If he's going to arrest me, arrest me," Ford told reporters at Toronto City Hall, according to CBCNEWS.ca. "I have done nothing wrong and he's wasted millions of dollars. I want him to come clean and say how much money did it cost the taxpayers for surveillance on me and the planes that he had to rent — that is absolutely game-playing, it's politics and I am not apologizing."

The conversation began with questions about the progress of city skating rinks but turned to his tense relationship with Blair. The mayor, his brother Councillor Doug Ford, and Blair have been sparring publicly since October, when Blair said police have video that shows Mayor Ford smoking crack cocaine. An investigation, called "Project Brazen 2," led to the arrest of Alessandro Lisi, a friend of Ford's, for drug trafficking and extortion.

Ford admitted to smoking crack cocaine in November.

Ford is no stranger to odd news. A video that was uploaded to YouTube shows Ford at Etobicoke's Steak Queen restaurant speaking with a Jamaican accent.

"There's nothing illegal, I can go out and if I chose to do that with my friends, I did nothing illegal at Steak Queen, OK?" Ford told reporters at the time. "How I speak to my friends, as you know, and I am going to repeat what I've said before, I have a lot of Jamaican friends, if I speak that way in a private setting, which Steak Queen is, a private setting, and someone tapes me, I can't help it if someone tapes me, OK?"

Police spokesman Mark Pugash declined to address Mayor Ford's remarks in the Toronto Globe & Mail.

"Our position is quite simple: We don't comment on ongoing criminal investigations," Pugash said.
