Heavy Metal Rocker Rob Zombie Says Skate Park by Home Too Loud

Rob Zombie, the heavy metal rocker and horror filmmaker, has filed a complaint with Woodbury, Conn. officials over noise from a skate park near his home.

The town is looking into moving the park, but first it has been trying to muffle the noise by enclosing the sides of the metal skate ramps, stuffing the jumps with Styrofoam and putting up soundproofing fabric on a fence. The park's hours have also been reduced and is closed on Sundays, the Associated Press reported.

First Selectman Gerald Stomski said the town of about 10,000 is treating Zombie's request as they would for any other citizen.

"We do know the Zombies, on a side note, and they are just normal people like anyone else in our town," Stomski told the Associated Press.

The park opened after two decades of planning and cost $53,000, covered partly by the town and partly by the fundraising efforts of children and their parents.

Teen skate boarders told WTNH-T that Zombie should give them a break.

"I mean he moved in to the back of a park so you got to expect a little noise," Ryan Baker said.

Zombie's wife, Sheri, asked at a June town budget meeting if there are funds available to move the park. She said the park "proved to be a significant noise pollutant" and reduced quality of life for the neighborhood.

Baker said the request was over-the-top.

"If he wants to move it, he should pay for it because it would probably cost a good amount of money to move it," Baker told WTNH-TV.

Zombie, 48, began his career with the 1980s shock-rock band White Zombie and before getting into horror films like "House of 1000 Corpses," its sequel, "The Devil's Rejects," and the recently released "The Lords of Salem."

Zombie has been the butt of jokes over his position on the skate park.

"There was a time when Rob Zombie was the baddest, nastiest metal/horror punk performer on the music scene," O'Connor wrote in a Brietbart.com column with the headline, "Get Off My Lawn!" "Fans may be surprised to learn that Zombie is in the news today . . . (because) he's upset over the noise from a nearby skate park in his hometown."
