Rob Lowe: Ariana Grande's Apology for 'I Hate America' Comment Was Lame

Rob Lowe has dubbed Ariana Grande's apology for her "I hate America" comment at a donut shop on the Fourth of July Day "lame" on Twitter, later telling "Entertainment Tonight" that he always has love for American fans who "make me money."

Grande got herself in hot water over the weekend during a visit to Wolfee Donuts in Lake Elsinore, California, with her backup dancer boyfriend Ricky Alvarez, according to TMZ. The couple was caught on a security camera kissing and inexplicably licking donuts while workers weren't looking — something that's now being investigated by health officials — but that's not what got the singer in trouble.

At one point, a shop worker presents a tray of donuts in front of Grande, who snaps, "What the f*** is that? I hate Americans. I hate America."

The leaked video tape sparked a strong social media backlash against the singer, forcing her to issue an apology on Wednesday, according to Us Weekly.

"I am extremely proud to be an American and I've always made it clear that I love my country," Grande said in a statement. "What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words."

"As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole," she continued.

Lowe originally slammed Grande in two Twitter posts and threw in country band the Dixie Chicks for good measure, referring to when the group criticized President George W. Bush during the Iraq War 12 years ago, "Entertainment Tonight" reported.

In an "ET" interview at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday, Lowe added to his Twitter posts: "When my American fans make me money I always like to say that I like them — but that's just me."
