Ronda Rousey Responds to Bethe Correia's 'Don't Kill Yourself' Taunts

By    |   Thursday, 28 May 2015 02:27 PM EDT

Ronda Rousey, current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, took to Twitter Thursday to respond to Bethe Correia’s suicide comments made on the Brazilian outlet Combate ahead of their meeting at UFC 190.

Correia made two trash-talking remarks referring to suicide.

“I would give her a rematch so she wouldn’t cry so much,” Correia said, according to MMA Junkie. “She can’t handle pressure. I will give her the opportunity to try and get the belt back. Please don’t kill yourself — don’t commit suicide, because I will give you the rematch.”

Later, she made a similar comment.

“She is not mentally healthy, she needs to take care of herself,” Correia said, according to  BleacherReport. “She is winning, so everybody is around her cheering her up, but when she realizes she is not everything that she believes she is, I don’t know what might happen. I hope she does not kill herself later on.”

The comment hit home for Rousey because her father committed suicide when she was just 8 years old, according to MMA Junkie. Rousey’s father was paralyzed after a sledding accident.

“Suicide is no joke or selling point,” Rousey tweeted. “My father will be with me the day I hand you the comeuppance you deserve.”

Seeing Rousey’s remark, Correia apologized to the UFC champion.

Some are skeptical as to whether Correia had heard Rousey’s story before since she also mentioned several personal things about Rousey, including her past use of drugs, food compulsion, and her autobiography, in the same interview, MMA Junkie noted.

Rousey holds a 11-0 career MMA record, including 5-0 in the UFC. Correia is 9-0 MMA and 3-0 UFC.

UFC 190 will be held in Rio De Janiero, Brazil August 1.
