Ron Paul: Ryan Budget Plan Doesn't Go Far Enough

By    |   Wednesday, 18 May 2011 12:16 PM EDT

Texas GOP Rep. Ron Paul says that, although he respects House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s attempts to cut the budget, he doesn’t believe the Wisconsin Republican's plan goes far enough. Paul also said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” the Medicare system is going to run into a “brick wall” before the proposal can help alleviate the nation’s fiscal crisis.

Ron Paul, Paul Ryan, budget plan“Well, I give him a lot of credit. You know, I get frustrated because I don’t think it’s going to last that long to deal with it, because I keep thinking the way we spend money, and the way inflation's coming back, we’re going to run up against a brick wall a lot sooner,” Paul said. “So I don’t fully endorse what he wants. I give him a lot of credit — at least he’s going in the right direction. It just wasn’t enough for me, you know.”

Host Joe Scarborough asked why the government can’t seem to cut spending.

“I think it’s the nature of the constituency,” Paul replied. “People want something from government, and this country got lazy and believed you could live off borrowed money and off other people. And we did it for a long, long time.”
