The royal baby countdown is on as Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton are expected to welcome their second child this month.
TV crews and fans have flocked to St. Mary's Hospital, where the
baby is expected to be delivered, Agence France-Presse reported. A press area was being set up at the hospital and nearby businesses were hoping for a surge in sales.
"Definitely we expect extra business — chocolate, drinks, cigarettes," a worker at a souvenir shop told AFP. "People are always excited to see any kind of royal family member."
Residents of Middleton’s hometown of Bucklebury, England, also have seen an
influx of visitors, People magazine reported.
"The real royalists and the people who get really excited have started to come into the village," local shop owner Lynda Tillotson told People. "They are beside themselves in anticipation. So you could say the official countdown has started!"
The royal baby isn’t due for another week, The Mirror reported. The hospital has put parking restrictions in place and said news crews won’t be allowed to take their place until Middleton is admitted.
The Royal couple is grateful for the warm wishes from the public.
“They know that people are excited that Prince George will soon have a little brother or sister and it means a great deal to them that so many will be celebrating this important moment for their family,” a spokesman said, according to The Mirror.
Twitter users commented about the countdown.
