Ryan Reynolds has cut a deal with Fox for a “Deadpool” feature film, based on the character he developed in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,”
Deadline reported.
The film is being made by Fox and Marvel Studios and is being directed by Tim Miller. It’s been in development for a few years, and is based on the Deadpool character that Deadline described as “a smart-mouthed mercenary with terminal cancer who undergoes military experiments in an attempt to replicate Wolverine’s mutant healing factor.” His attitude also earned him the moniker “The Merc with a Mouth.”
Production on the film begins in March, Deadline said.
Reynolds, who had only seven tweets on his account Thursday afternoon, announced his return as Deadpool on Twitter Thursday.
Leaked Deadpool footage in July excited fans for the possibility of a movie based on the character. It's likely the positive reactions spurred the development onward.

One fan wrote on the clip, “Man, I wish that this was gonna be in the real movie. This is Deadpool right here — this is what he's supposed to be like. ... Deadpool isn't MEANT to be PG-13. People writing the checks for these movies not wanting to fund something violent is the reason a lot of comic book movies can't be taken seriously — if it's not going to make a billion dollars, they're not gonna fund it. But that's why everything gets toned down and the real feel of the characters we love gets removed.”
That fan, and many others, will apparently get their wish with the movie scheduled for release in 2016.
