The rumors were true: Ryan Seacrest confirmed Thursday he will host "American Idol" when it returns to TV on ABC this fall.
He made the announcement on "Live With Kelly and Ryan" with co-star Ripa announcing, "I can confirm with absolute confirmation ... that Ryan Seacrest is returning as the host of 'American Idol.'"
The announcement followed a tweet by Seacrest.
"American Idol" ended on Fox in April 2016 after 15 seasons, but when Seacrest said goodbye in the season finale, he raised speculation that it might return. “And one more time — this is so tough — we say to you from Hollywood, goodnight America,” he said, then added, “for now.”
Seacrest will continue to host “Live With Kelly and Ryan” while hosting “Idol,” and he will also continue to do his popular radio show and run his production company that produces shows such as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.”
“It’s genuinely hard to put into words what ‘American Idol’ means to me,” Seacrest said in a statement, CNN reported. “I’m so grateful for the show and all the career and life opportunities it’s allowed me to experience.”
Fans expressed their excitement about Seacrest’s return on Twitter.
