Sandra Bullock Got Ready for 'Gravity' by Working With Astronauts

Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock said her film "Gravity" with George Clooney was the most physically and mentally challenging of her career, and she prepared for the movie by working with astronauts.

Debuting at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, the 3D science fiction flick is a tale about astronauts trapped in space after a failed Russian missile shot to take out a spy satellite,

During a news conference after the showing,  Sandra Bullock said shooting "Gravity" was as demanding as it looked, according to Reuters.

"Physically and mentally it was the craziest, most bizarre, challenging thing. But you find what you're made of," said Bullock.

Bullock plays an inexperienced medical engineer who is matched with a veteran astronaut, played by Clooney. Bullock said she prepared for the role by working with real astronauts.

"They were incredibly helpful, and they gave me an inside visual as to why they do what they do," Bullock told the Hollywood Reporter.

Clooney jokingly said he prepared for his role by "doing yoga and drinking." He told reporters his biggest test was "moving slowly to mimic the way the body moves in space while speaking normally."

Clooney praised Bullock, saying her role was more challenging and that she rose to the occasion.

"Sandy actually had a much harder job," Clooney told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "Obviously, clearly in this film but she had a trainer on the set and she worked very hard on it."

Bullock told reporters her 3-year-old son, Louis, helps her stay in shape.

"I love to dance, I have a background, I was a gymnast, I was a dancer, I just don't like gyms. I'm very bored so I'm just cardio, music, just blast the music for an hour and don't stop moving your body. Lightweights," she said. "I have a 40 pound 3-year-old that still is a baby and insists on being carried so I must stay strong. So just that."

Gravity will make its debut in the United States on Oct. 4, according to IMDb.com. The movie is directed and co-written by Alfonso Cuaron.
