Sandy Thuy Le has become the third person to die after a drunken driver plowed his car into a crowd of people at SXSW last week. She succumbed to her injuries Monday.

Le, 26, was on life support since the incident at the South by Southwest festival in Austin on Thursday night when aspiring rapper Rashad Owens, 21, allegedly drove his car through a crowd of people while fleeing from police. He is being held on $3 million bond and has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.

“Obviously, the world has lost a sister, and a daughter, and her friend support out there at the hospital is just outstanding,” Stuart Gates, Le’s brother-in-law, told The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss. “I’m just … hurting for adjectives right now. We’ve lost someone who knew how to live life and knew how to make people happy.”

Gates said Le, a native of Pass Christian, Miss., was surrounded by family and friends when she passed away.

Steven Craenmehr, 35, who was riding a bicycle, and Jamie West, 27, of Austin, who was riding a moped, were the other two fatalities. Twenty-one others were injured when Owens allegedly plowed through the barricade in front of the Mohawk Club in Austin. Five other victims remained hospitalized as of Monday at the University Medical Center-Brackenridge. One of the five victims is reported to be in critical condition while two are in serious condition.

Attracting more than 200,000 people annually, the South by Southwest festival is a film and music festival as well as a technology conference.
