Sara Gilbert supports the cancellation of "Roseanne," the actress said on "The Talk" Monday, tearfully calling it a "difficult week" but saying she thought ABC made the right decision.
“I’m sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process, however I do stand behind the decision that ABC made,” Gilbert told co-host of the CBS show Sheryl Underwood.
Gilbert, who reprised her role as Darlene Conner in the revival, had previously tweeted that Roseanne Barr’s comments about Valerie Jarrett and other topics that led to the show's cancellation were “abhorrent” and not reflective of the beliefs of any of the cast or crew.
Underwood said during the interview that she agreed with Gilbert’s assessment.
“I’m really glad to hear you say that, because as a black woman who is a comedian, I’m very, very proud of Channing Dungey,” she said. “And, as Spike Lee says, a lot of people came together to do the right thing. And, I’m happy to see that it was done swiftly.”
TMZ reported Friday that ABC was looking into whether they could do a “Roseanne” reboot focusing on Gilbert’s character and that Gilbert had contacted John Goodman, who plays her TV father and Barr’s character's husband, to gauge his interest.
ABC has not commented on any possible spinoffs or which characters might be involved.
