Sarah Jessica Parker said this week that she is cutting ties with EpiPen manufacturer Mylan after the company increased the cost of the lifesaving allergy injector by more than 400 percent since 2007.

According to People magazine, the "Sex and the City" actress, 51, issued her statement on her Instagram account as public backlash mounted against Mylan, which has boosted the cost of the EpiPen twin-pack to more than $600. Parker's son, James Wilkie Broderick, 13, needs an EpiPen because of his peanut allergy.

Quartz reported Mylan's sales of EpiPens is in excess of $1 billion annually. Currently, an EpiPen can cost more than $300 with insurance. The pens are only sold in pairs because the drug, epinephrine, can lose its potency over time.

In a statement on its website, Mylan attempted to push the blame onto insurance companies.

"With the current changes in the healthcare insurance landscape, an increasing number of people and families have enrolled in high deductible health plans, and deductible amounts continue to rise," the Mylan statement said.

"This current and ongoing shift has presented new challenges for consumers, and now they are bearing more of the cost. This new change to the industry is not an easy challenge to address, but we recognize the need and are committed to working with customers and payers to find solutions to meet the needs of the patients and families we serve," the statement continued.

Mylan announced Thursday that it would be giving a $300 "savings card" discount for a two-pack of EpiPens, but U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings called the offer a "PR move," reported Business Insider.

"Mylan should not offer after-the-fact discounts only for a select few — it should reverse its massive price increases across the board immediately," Cumming said in a statement.

Cummings has requested a House oversight committee hearing with Mylan officials to discuss the EpiPen price increase.

In the meantime, Parker found support for her recent decision on social media.
