Scott Eastwood, son of Clint Eastwood, will appear as the lead role in "The Longest Ride," a film adapted from the novel of the same name by romance writer Nicholas Sparks.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Fox has already set an April 3, 2015, date for the release. The announcement marks the actor's first role in a movie by a major studio.

Eastwood will play Luke Collins, a young cowboy who meets a college senior, Sophia Danko, at a local bull riding event where the two fall deeply in love. The pair are complemented by a parallel storyline in which a 91-year-old man reflects on his love affair with his deceased wife after getting into a car crash.

The film will be directed by George Tillman Jr., who directed the biopic of rapper The Notorious B.I.G. and the "Barbershop" series.

The younger Eastwood will appear next opposite Brad Pitt in WWII movie "Fury" after previously building up a résumé of indie film appearances as well as roles in dad Clint Eastwood's "Invictus," "Gran Torino," and "Flags Of Our Fathers." He has also appeared on television, picking up a two-episode character arc in "Chicago Fire" last year.

"The Longest Ride" will be Sparks' ninth novel to be adapted for the screen. "The Notebook," "Dear John," and "The Lucky One" have been strong at the box office.

Eastwood posted a picture of himself to Instagram on announcement day holding the book and smiling.
