Sean "Diddy" Combs wants to buy the Carolina Panthers so that he can sign Colin Kaepernick.
The hip-hop mogul detailed his interest in becoming the NFL's first African-American majority owner on social media after news broke that the Panthers' current owner, Jerry Richardson, was selling the team amid accusations of sexual and racist misconduct, Fox News noted.
"I would like to buy the @Panthers. Spread the word. Retweet!" Combs said via Twitter on Sunday and later vowed to sign on Kaepernick in an Instagram post.
"I will immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation and put him in the running for next year's starting quarterback," Combs said in a video, per Fox News, referring to the fact that Kaepernick remains unsigned after his national anthem protest last football season.
The declaration piqued the interest of the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback as well as Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, Rolling Stone magazine noted, both of whom wanted to join Combs.
"I want in on the ownership group! Let's make it happen!," Kaepernick replied on Twitter.
Richardson announced that he would be selling the Panthers after a report by Sports Illustrated emerged on Sunday, citing several unnamed sources accusing him of sexually inappropriate comments made toward women as well as at least one racist remark to a Panthers scout, CNBC said.
In an open letter, Richardson announced that he was selling the team but did not address the sexual allegations.
"I believe it is time to turn the franchise over to new ownership," he said. "Therefore, I will put the team up for sale at the conclusion of the NFL season."
