Sharon Stone has admitted that the director's XXX cut of "Basic Instinct" is being released against her will.
The actress shot to fame after appearing in the 1992 erotic thriller, but her career has been marked by the unforgettable scene in which she exposes herself by crossing and uncrossing her legs in front of a team of male investigators. Stone has long claimed that she was "tricked" into not wearing underwear for the scene, and now she is speaking out about her ongoing battle with directors about its release.
"They've decided to release the director's XXX cut for the 30th anniversary," the 63-year-old told "A Current Affair" on Monday, according to Daily Mail.
Responding to host Tracy Grimshaw's question as to whether or not she had the power to stop the film's release, Stone said she did not.
"'There are new [Screen Actors Guild] rules about that that have been made and created but they were made after I, as a young lady, made this film, and so they don't apply to me," she explained.
Stone has previously claimed that she was exploited in the production of "Basic Instinct." In an excerpt of her memoir obtained by Vanity Fair earlier this year, Stone said a member of the production team convinced her to take her underwear off during filming for the scene, but she was under the impression that although she would be exposed, it would not be visible on film. Only when she was called to see the final finish did she realize she had been misled.
"That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I'd been told, 'We can't see anything — I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on,' " she wrote. "Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I'm the one with the vagina, in question, let me say: The other points of view are bulls***. … It was me and my parts up there."
After the viewing, Stone said she slapped director "Paul [Verhoeven] across the face," then walked out. Verhoeven, meanwhile, has dismissed Stone's claims that she was taken by surprise by the scene in which she bared all.
"Any actress knows what she's going to see if you ask her to take off her underwear and point there with the camera," he said, according to Daily Mail.
