Shayanna Jenkins Investigated for Possible Tampering in Hernandez Case

Shayanna Jenkins, the fiancée of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez who is charged with murder, is under investigation for possibly tampering with evidence in the case.

The Bristol Press said search warrants that became public indicated police believed Hernandez may have asked Jenkins to hide the weapon he allegedly used to kill Odin Lloyd.

Surveillance video showed Jenkins carried a “rigid object the size of a lock box or safe” out of Hernandez’s house covered in clothing and put it in the trunk of the car she was driving.

In the documents, police speculated that Jenkins either got rid of the weapon in the Massachusetts woods or brought it to a storage locker. Police searched the storage locker as well several other locations looking for evidence in the murder case.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge.

His cousin, Tanya Cummings-Singleton, is in jail in Massachusetts and authorities aren’t saying why she’s being held, The Associated Press said, but reported a Hartford Courant article said she’s being held on contempt of court for refusing to testify about the Lloyd killing.

The New York Daily News explored the problems in the Hernandez family, including his mother Terri Hernandez’s arrest on professional gambling charges and the death of Hernandez’s father during a routine surgery. A second husband was arrested for stabbing Terri Hernandez, and the couple divorced.

After her son’s arrest, Terri Hernandez lost her brother in a moped crash and another family member in a car crash.

Still in jail with no bond, Hernandez is making the news not only for the murder charge but for the letters he’s apparently writing from jail, CBS Sports reported. A first letter said he wasn’t guilty and that people who didn’t believe in him were going to feel “like crap.” A second letter, also supposedly from him, said he believes there’s a reason God is putting him through this, and also asked the recipient to keep the letter private.

The first letter sold for $18,000 to TMZ.
