Sheila Keen Warren was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder in a 27-year-old killer clown cold case that returned its focus to a love triangle.
The 54-year-old woman was arrested in Washington County, Virginia, Tuesday for the killing of her husband’s previous wife, Marlene Warren, in 1990, NBC News reported.
A clown, carrying flowers and two balloons allegedly shot Marlene Warren in the face on her doorstep in Wellington, Florida, near West Palm Beach, in 1990, the network said.
A report issued by Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said, "Marlene answered the front door and as the clown offered the items to her, witnesses heard a gunshot and Marlene fell to the ground."
According to witness reports, the suspect then calmly walked back to her vehicle parked in the driveway and drove away.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Ferrell said this was the strangest thing he had ever seen.
"It certainly seems well planned out," he said, per the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel.
NBC News noted that detectives were told weeks after the murder that Michael Warren had been having marital problems with his wife and that he and Sheila keen had been having an affair.
Sheila Keen had been identified as a suspect during the initial police investigation, however was never arrested.
Meanwhile, in 2002 she married Michael Warren and the couple have reportedly been living in Tennessee, operating a restaurant together, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
In 2014 the case was reopened by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit.
Police got new information through additional DNA analysis and by re-interviewing witnesses. Probable cause was established linking Sheila Keen Warren to the murder of Marlene Warren, and in August an arrest warrant was obtained for Sheila Warren, according to the sheriff's office report.
On Tuesday she was charged with first degree murder.
