Shelby GT500 Found in Pristine Condition Under Decades of Dust

A classic 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 is being auctioned off in Pennsylvania after it was found for an estate sale sitting in a garage in pristine condition under decades of dust.

Ron Gilligan Auctioneering announced the estate auction for Larry A. Brown in Centre Hall on April 25, featuring the Shelby Mustang GT-500 which has 8,531 miles on it. The auction's website said the car is painted black jade, with black interior with a 428 Cobra Jet engine, four-speed transmission and its original documentation.

Brown passed away last year with no wife or children to inherit his estate, which includes his house, motorbikes and cars, according to Yahoo! Autos. Brown bought the car in May 1969 for $5,245.97.

"'As discovered' photos illustrate the garage find with decades of dust and a (Pennsylvania) state inspection sticker that expired in January 1973," noted the Gilligan Auctioneering website. "In addition, we located the car’s original smog system, shifter assembly, snorkel, S-tube, Shelby window sticker, bill of sale, build sheet, owner’s manual, warranty card, title, and registration documentation that will be included with the car."

The auctioneers said on the website that the car was not driven in the rain or even washed because the owner was concerned the water would cause rust.

"If this car was hose washed since new, it probably occurred at the detail bay of the selling dealer before delivery," the auction's website stated. "In storage, the owner kept the hood up (nice, straight fiberglass hood with no spring tension) and the trunk lid up with the trunk mat and underlayment removed. The seats were wrapped with garbage bags, and two layers of floor mats protected the original carpet."

Car enthusiasts gushed over the pictures and articles about the Shelby GT-500 online.
