Shonda Rhimes, an award-winning director, producer and writer, has launched Shondaland.com, in partnership with Hearst Magazines Digital Media. The new website will feature advice, exclusive interviews, articles, videos and more from the Shondaland production team.
Rhimes is renowned for her work on hit series such as "Greys Anatomy" and "Scandal." She and her team at Shondaland, the television company she founded, saw the opportunity to expand the brand into the digital space.
"As a storyteller, I am excited to have another platform to tell all kinds of stories," Rhimes said in an interview with Adweek. "We are all about cultivating quality stories, not trending topics. This is about real people with real lives."
Shondaland.com will be hosted by Hearst Digital Media’s propriety content platform MediaOS. The partnership will see the Shondaland and Hearst team collaborating on custom programs for advertisers, while offering Rhimes' new site various syndication opportunities across Hearst’s other properties. Hearst currently boasts a prolific portfolio, including media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE and Marie Claire.
"We’re excited to partner with Shonda Rhimes to bring her unique voice and vision to our highly engaged audience of more than 200 million users a month," Troy Young, global president of Hearst Magazines Digital Media said in a statement, according to Variety. "As an empowering and inclusive platform for women, we know that Shondaland.com will become a must-read for her passionate and growing community of fans."
Rhimes, who will have her own pages on the site with articles on hair, politics, weight loss and more, spoke of the partnership with Hearst in a statement, saying, "As we launch this new storytelling platform, we couldn’t be more excited to partner with one of the most prolific media companies in the world. Hearst’s collection of brands is second to none and we look forward to Shondaland joining their iconic portfolio."
Shonda Rhimes, who is creative director for Dove on their Real Beauty Productions film series, will also collaborate with the beauty brand to create content for the new website.
The site will feature sections on style, family, body, beauty, real women and inspiration, and already contains articles and features penned by Rhimes herself. Visitors will get inside looks at Rhimes’ work on her popular shows and various thoughts and opinions within the women empowerment space.
The site’s launch has been met by enthusiasm and excitement on Twitter.
