Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone, two of the three heroes from the foiled August terrorist train attack in Paris, reunited at a Sacramento hospital over the weekend when Skarlatos visited the recovering Stone in the aftermath of last week's stabbing.
In a selfie posted on his Instagram account, Skarlatos snapped a shot leaning over Stone’s hospital bed, captioning it,
“Saw the hero today,” according to People magazine. He later took the post down.
Stone, 23, is currently in fair condition after undergoing surgery at UC Davis Medical Center following a fight outside a Sacramento nightclub that left him with three stab wounds. According to a witness, Stone was injured while defending a woman from being assaulted by a
man outside a dance club, according to the Daily Mail.
Deputy Police Chief Ken Bernard described the fight scene as a “very unfortunate altercation between two groups of folks who were enjoying the nightlife” in Sacramento while emphasizing that the stabbing was “not related to terrorism in any way” and that the assailants most likely had no idea that Stone was famous.
In August, Skarlatos, Stone, and Anthony Sadler were credited with helping to stop a terrorist attack aboard a Paris-bound train. President Barack Obama later met with the three men to honor them, saying that, “Because of their courage, because of their quick thinking, because of their teamwork . . . a real calamity was averted. They represent the very best of America, American heritage, and it's these kinds of young people who make me extraordinarily
optimistic about the future,” according to The Washington Post.
Skarlatos, who is currently competing on “Dancing with the Stars,” is reportedly planning to go into law enforcement after his stint on the show.
Stone is expected to make a full recovery, and the local police are still in search of the group of assailants from last week’s stabbing.
