The SkyView Atlanta, a 20-story Ferris wheel located near Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta, opened Tuesday.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, joined by members of the City Council, took the first official ride on the city's latest attraction.

The project was a privately funded endeavor that did not require any money from the city, Real Times Media reported.

"I think we only benefit from a tax revenue perspective," Councilman Kwanza Hall told WXIA. "We get cash in, in this case, so we don't have to make any investments or anything like that."

The SkyView Atlanta is expected to bring at least 50 jobs to the area.

"It is going to be a great attraction in Atlanta," Natalye Givons, a new employee at SkyView Atlanta, told Real Times Media. "It's definitely going to bring sightseers and visitors and tourists from different places here. We need people to help serve customers and maintain the ride."

According to developers, each ride on the Ferris wheel will take 15 minutes and consist of 4 revolutions, My Fox Atlanta reported.

"SkyView Atlanta is going to be open pretty much 365 days out of the year," Jason Evans, a SkyView Atlanta spokesman, told CBS Atlanta. "It's going to be really fun. All the cars, all the gondolas, are climate-controlled, so it'll be cool in the summer and warm in the winter."

The Ferris wheel consists of 42 gondolas, each of which hold up to six passengers.
The SkyView Atlanta will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, except for Saturday nights when the ride will run till 11 p.m.

Tickets to take a ride on the Ferris wheel are going for $13.50 for adults and $8.50 for kids.

The SkyView Ferris wheel was initially in "Paris right across the street from the Louvre Museum," according to Evans.

"It was also in Switzerland for a little while, and then it was in Pensacola, Florida," Evans added. "Pensacola was always a temporary destination. We moved from there to here because we decided Centennial Olympic Park was the perfect place for this attraction."
