Cher raised eyebrows Thursday during a Facebook Q&A with fans, joking that her late ex-husband Sonny Bono was in hell.

The Q&A generated more than 9,300 comments on Facebook. When one fan asked what would she tell Bono if he was alive today, Cher, 67, responded: "How hot is it where you just came from?"

That brought a number of negative responses on the Facebook section.

"Isn't that rude? CHER, the real diva-queen," wrote Angela Smith.

Another fan, Sam Litman wrote: "I know, I was shocked at her answer. I thought she would say that she misses him instead."

Fabio da Silva came to Cher's defense, writing on Facebook: "Come on people (she) is just being funny of course she misses him. If some of you have watched her interviews and saw her talking about him (you) would know more or less their (relationship)."

Us Weekly reported that in recent years Cher has been more open about her rocky relationship with Bono, including his infidelity that the songstress said she didn't find out about until later in the marriage.

"Stardom made Sonny a huge womanizer," Cher told Parade magazine in 2010. "One woman, or even five, was not enough for him. I found all this out afterward. I asked him, 'How did you manage the logistics?' I was trusting and faithful with him. The truth is, I’m not so sure we should've ever been husband and wife."

The couple was married in 1964, had a major hit in "I Got You Babe" and two hit variety shows before divorcing in 1975. The couple's only child, born Chastity Sun Bono, born in 1969, underwent gender transition surgery in 2008 and is now known as Chaz Bono.

Cher later admitted during the Facebook Q&A despite that their difficulties she still has fond memories of him.

"Do you miss Sonny?" another user asked. Cher responded: "I think about him a lot sometimes. There are things about him that I miss."

Bono later married Mary Whitaker Bono in 1986 and served as mayor of Palm Springs, Calif. from 1988-92. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 and was serving there when he died from injuries in a skiing accident in Lake Tahoe in 1998 at 62.
