Free-agent linebacker Brandon Spikes tweeted his confusion about the Aaron Hernandez verdict and ignited a storm of controversy in the process.
Spikes went online after Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder, tweeting:
Hernandez received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
NBC Sports predicted the controversial comment may keep Spikes out of a job a little bit longer.
“If he continues to linger on the open market after coming close to breaking out one of the Pouncey twins ‘Free Hernandez’ hats, Spikes shouldn’t be confused about that,” Mike Florio wrote.
Spikes engaged with many of the people who commented about his social media talk about the Hernandez verdict, even the ones who said things like, “you got a job bro???”
Spikes and Hernandez played together for the New England Patriots and also at the University of Florida. Spikes “might be letting his relationship with a former teammate
cloud his judgement,” said the New England Sports Network.
Spikes was clearly affected by the verdict, tweeting soon after his “confused” status, “Let me get off this cus yall wanna joke and sh** smh #coldworld,” and then added:
