News that 55-year-old actor Tom Cruise was injured while performing a stunt on the set of “Mission Impossible 6” probably didn’t surprise many familiar with his on- and off-screen action personas.
TMZ published a video on Sunday showing Cruise attempting to leap onto a building from a rigging, but falling short and colliding into the building. The extent of his injuries is still unknown, but the video showed Cruise limping, then collapsing next to crew members.
Here are four other stars who also do their own stunts, and get hurt.
1. Jackie Chan – The veteran actor, martial artist and producer is renowned for doing his own stunts and has the battle scars to show.
Although his list of injuries is extensive, possibly the worst was when he fractured his skull and sustained a brain bleed after falling out of a tree on set of “Armour of God,” Kotaku noted.
Chan has also worked as stunt director to various campaigns.
2. Sylvester Stallone – With a successful career that spans decades, Stallone has become a household name. The actor is known for his brute strength and, adding to his credibility, is that he insists on doing his own stunts on set.
This does come with its own setbacks though.
Screenrant noted how Stallone broke his neck during filming for the first installment of “The Expendables” series.
He also was reportedly admitted into ICU after being punched by Dolph Lundgren on the set of “Rocky IV.”
3. Angelina Jolie – Hollywood women have joined the ranks when it comes to doing their own stunts, as is proven by Jolie on the set of “Salt.”
Speaking to US Magazine, Jolie’s stunt trainer, Simon Crane, said "during her final fight Liev [Schrieber]...She had to dive through an opening door firing a gun...as she carried the sequence on, she rushed into a corner piece of a set and bumped her head.”
4. Harrison Ford – He made headlines in 2015 when he had to be rushed to hospital after sustaining serious injury to his leg on the set of the recent “Star Wars” film.
The Daily Star reported on the incident, saying that the door of the Millennium Falcon spacecraft fell onto his leg.
The 73-year-old still insists on doing his own stunts, saying “I do running, jumping, falling down. I hit people, get hit – but I don’t see those as stunts.”
He also pilots planes.
