A stepdad shot his stepdaughter’s boyfriend in the head on Sunday after the teen came to visit her Florida home only to find the man and his friend armed with shotguns and incensed at his arrival.
Alvin Knight, 50, reportedly did not get along very well with his
stepdaughter’s 16-year-old boyfriend, according to Click Orlando. But when the teen arrived at the Apopka home on 13th Street to visit his girlfriend, he was in for a surprise.
“The 16-year-old boy comes over to the house to visit the girlfriend, who lives there,” said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Paul Hopkins, according to Click Orlando. “The father and the boyfriend don't get along very well, so the father of the girlfriend answers the door with a shotgun in his hand.”
After being confronted with the two armed men at the front door, the teen reportedly grabbed the barrel of Knight’s shotgun and brought it to his head, showing that
Knight did not scare him, according to WFTV.com. Knight fired the gun, and the bullet grazed the teen’s head. The boy was subsequently taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Knight has been charged with aggravated
battery with a firearm, according to WESH.com. He also has a criminal record accrued over 15 years, which includes previous arrests for charges in connection with burglary, drugs, and assaulting an officer. Knight may also face charges of witness-tampering and attempting to cover up evidence.
“During our investigation, we felt like they were trying to make us feel (like) this was an accident, and we were able to get some testimony that they were trying to tamper with some of the witnesses and their testimony,” Hopkins said.
Knight was taken to jail, although he was later released after posting bond, according to Click Orlando. He was reportedly taken to prison while unleashing his displeasure in a slew of profanity-laced tirades.
