Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman has been named as the next Bond girl Estrella for the coming film “Spectre.”
Sony and MGM announced the role on Facebook.
Sigman, 27, has previously starred in “Miss Bala,” and has made TV appearances on “The Bridge” and “Narcos.”
Other Bond girls announced for the film are Léa Seydoux as Dr. Madeleine Swann and Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra.
Bellucci, who at 50 is the
oldest Bond girl ever cast, told The Sunday Times that she was surprised to be called for the role.
“I just blurted out: I’m not a girl, I’m a woman, I’m a mature woman,” she told the newspaper. “Do I have to replace Judi Dench?”
Seydoux, 29, said her
role would be different from past Bond girls, The Guardian reported.
“I think I’m not really the stereotyped Bond girl,” she said. “I feel quite different. You can’t be like, ‘Oh, James.’ You have to find something else. She’s not a fighter, she’s a doctor. She fights in another way.”
Director Sam Mendes said the story in the film drew him to agree to directing it.
“What you have is a movie entirely driven by Bond,”
Mendes said, according to the film’s website. “He is on a mission from the very beginning. It’s about whether or not to pursue the life he’s always pursued, whether he matters and is he going to continue or not. And you’re going to have to come to see the movie to find out whether he does.”
Daniel Craig will return to play secret agent James Bond. "Spectre" is set for release on Nov. 6.
