Steve Martin has apologized for an offensive tweet that he quickly deleted this weekend, but some of his fans were unhappy anyway.

ABC News said the tweet came after Martin asked his Twitter fans to “submit your grammar here” Friday evening. One person asked, "Is this how you spell lasonia?" In answering the pasta question, Martin said, “It depends. Are you in an African-American neighborhood or at an Italian restaurant?”

Although he quickly deleted the tweet, some anger lingered online and Martin apologized.

“I did apologize,” the comedian tweeted. “But again, a second later, I realized what an offensive thing I’d done. Deep bow. My tweet was highly inappropriate.”

A few people pointed out the racial issues in Martin’s joke, like this woman:

The Twitter user @ImNotHereAreYou took some flak for her criticism of Martin and said later that she’s a fan and wasn’t angry, just wanted to point out the stereotypes in his joke.

Some, though, felt like it was a lot of hullabaloo about nothing.
