Sting Cancels Concerts Due to Illness

By    |   Wednesday, 22 January 2025 01:03 PM EST

Sting postponed two upcoming shows and canceled a planned appearance at an awards ceremony, citing health concerns.

The 73-year-old musician and former frontman of The Police will not attend the Bass Magazine Awards on Thursday, where he was set to receive a lifetime achievement honor.

Sting, whose birth name is Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, also rescheduled performances originally planned for Phoenix and Wheatland, California. The concerts, previously set for earlier dates, were pushed to May and June.

The news was announced on Sting's official Instagram account. The decision was made  "on advisement from his doctor, due to illness," according to the post

It was advised that fans should retain their tickets for the postponed shows, as they will still be valid for the new dates.

"Sting sincerely apologises for any inconvenience and extends his gratitude to the fans for their understanding," the post read.

No further information on Sting's health was provided.

Sting, alongside his wife Trudie Styler, recently revealed in an interview that their son, Joe, had lost his house in California due to the raging wildfires that left tens of thousands displaced and over 14,000 structures destroyed.

"He's got three little ones so it's devastating," Styler said of their son. "They've found a pet-friendly hotel for them and the dogs."

Last week, it was revealed that Sting would perform with Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers in a special benefit concert for FireAid, aimed at raising funds for wildfire relief efforts in Los Angeles, the Independent reported.

Initially set to take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, the event has since been expanded to include the nearby Kia Forum for the performance on Jan. 30. As of now, Sting has not confirmed whether he will still participate in the concert.

The FireAid event will be streamed across several major platforms, including Apple Music, Apple TV, Netflix, Paramount+, and Prime Video, among others.

According to a press release, contributions to FireAid will "be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation, for short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives to prevent future fire disaster. All proceeds from the FireAid benefit concert at Intuit Dome and Kia Forum will go directly to the event's designated beneficiaries."
