Hillary Clinton was "very, very dangerous" for the Unites States and the nation would probably be at war if she was elected president, actress Susan Sarandon said in an exclusive interview with The Guardian.
The Oscar-winning actress and outspoken liberal supported independent U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders during the Democratic presidential primary, The Guardian noted, and she was asked if she had said back then that Clinton was more dangerous than Donald Trump.
"Not exactly, but I don't mind that quote," Sarandon told The Guardian in the interview posted on Sunday. "I did think she was very, very dangerous. We would still be fracking, we would be at war [if she was president]. It wouldn't be much smoother. Look what happened under Obama that we didn't notice."
Sarandon said her refusal to support Clinton in the general election left her a target for moderates, to the point she had to change her phone number.
"I got from Hillary people 'I hope your crotch is grabbed,' 'I hope you’re raped,'" Sarandon told The Guardian. "Misogynistic attacks. Recently, I said 'I stand with Dreamers' (children brought illegally to the U.S., whose path to legal citizenship – an Obama-era provision – Trump has threatened to revoke) and that started another wave."
Sarandon said, though, she has not lost friends over the election because she believes that "my friends have a right to their opinions." She told The Guardian, though, the debate over Clinton has continued.
"Or strangely, some of my gay friends were like: 'Oh, I just feel bad for [Clinton],'" Sarandon said, per The Guardian. "And I said: 'She's not authentic. She's been terrible to gay people for the longest time. She's an opportunist.' And then I'm like: ‘OK, let's not talk about it anymore.'"
Sarandon's criticism of Clinton is similar to what she leveled against the former secretary of state in 2016, when she told MSNBC that she believed the election of Trump "will bring the revolution immediately."
