A plane crash at a Switzerland aviation camp Friday killed the pilot and two teen boys, and seriously injured a teen girl.
The single-engine plane, a Piper PA28, already had flown once before going up with the group, BBC News reported. The crash took place about 10 minutes after takeoff at around 9:30 a.m. local time and was witnessed by tourists nearby.
Swiss Civil Aviation closed airspace in the area after the crash, and an investigation is underway.
The teens killed were both 14 years old, and the girl injured is 17, the New York Post reported.
The camp, Aeroclub Switzerland, which introduces teens to aviation, has been in operation for 35 years. The flight was supposed to be the highlight of the week, the Post reported.
Police spokesman Roman Ruegg said the pilot was experienced and had taken other teens up prior to the crash, the BBC reported.
“My whole world has collapsed,” camp spokesman Yves Burkhardt said, the New York Post reported. “The young people spent a wonderful holiday week.” Nearly 200 teenagers attended the camp this year.
The plane crash took place in a mountainous area of Graubunden, Switzerland, near the Italian border.
