Sylvester Stallone now has his very own “Rocky” statue from the movie “Rocky III” after buying it at auction for slightly more than $400,000.
The statue is one of two the actor commissioned from artist A. Thomas Schomberg for the 1982 "Rocky III" film. While the original is on display in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the backup statue Stallone bought had been an exhibit for many years in the San Diego Hall of Champions.
The backup statue — at 9 feet tall and 1,800 pounds — went on the auction bock last month with SCP Auctions after the San Diego facility closed.
SCP stated a buyer bid on the statue for a mystery customer with a final price of $403,657 and the piece was shipped to Los Angeles, but a source with the auction confirmed to TMZ that Stallone bought the statue.
The “Rocky” star even posed with Arnold Schwarzenegger on Christmas Day with the statue at Stallone’s house and posted a photo on Instagram.
Stallone’s wife, Jennifer Flavin, told TMZ in October that her husband was interested in buying the backup statue, which was valued at $1 million at the time. (Apparently Stallone got a great deal.)
Stallone's statue purchase comes just before the actor, 71, is about to start production on "Creed II."
There is still hope for people who want a piece of Rocky: There’s a third statue created by Schomberg Studios in 2006 for sale online, according to TotalRocky.
