From “Rocky” and “Rambo” to the latest action thrillers, Sylvester Stallone has electrified movie fans for decades. But there are still a few things about the Hollywood icon that fans may not know.

Sly’s overnight success started with 1976’s “Rocky,” which Stallone wrote and starred in. The film scored an Academy Award for Best Picture and led to several blockbuster sequels.

Since then, Stallone has managed to remain one of the biggest box office draws around the world.

Here are five things you didn't know about Sylvester Stallone:

1. He is a boxing hall of famer — He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame along with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in 2011 because of the highly successful “Rocky” series. “Outside the ring is sometimes maybe an even bigger struggle than what goes on inside the ring,” Stallone told thousands at the induction ceremony.

2. Stallone suffered boxing injuries — He ended up in the intensive care unit after telling Dolph Lundgren to punch him as hard as he could while filming “Rocky IV,” according to AMC. He also suffered a broken neck (that was repaired with a metal plate) during a fight scene with Steve Austin while making “The Expendables.”

3. He wrote a script about Edgar Allan Poe — His planned biopic about the horror writer has been in development since 2005, according to HuffPost's David Brake. He originally wanted to star in the role but now wants a younger actor to play Poe, who died at age 39.

4. He was once roughed up by Jack Lemmon — But only for a movie — 1975's “The Prisoner of Second Avenue." Stallone had a bit part just before his “Rocky” success, and Lemmon mistakenly believes Sly’s character stole his wallet, so he mugs him and ends up with the poor guy’s wallet.

5. He once considered getting into politics — Stallone was working on 2006's "Rocky Balboa" when he met the mayor of Philadelphia who told him he could probably run for office and get elected. “I said to my wife, ‘What do you think?’” Stallone told Variety. “She said, ‘Are you crazy? He’s just being nice. You’re not going to be elected. You don’t have that insatiable need to be embraced by people.' . . . And five minutes later, I came to my senses."
