Taco Bell will start selling nacho fries for $1 nationwide on Jan. 25 in an effort to compete with other fast-food chains for budget-conscious consumers.
The fries have “bold Mexican seasoning” and come with a side of nacho cheese dipping sauce, CNN Money reported. A supreme order with pico de gallo and sour cream costs $2.49, and bell grande, a larger version of the supreme, is $3.49.
The move bolsters the chain’s dollar menu offerings, which expanded last month to include a $1 Stacker, which is a type of egg quesadilla that is available all day, CNN Money reported.
Taco Bell announced last month that it planned to add 20 new $1 items to its menu in 2018.
Some of the new items will be in certain test markets while others will be nationwide offerings, CNBC reported. Nacho fries were previously offered at overseas locations.
While some experts believe that discounted and low-priced menu items don’t make much money for fast food restaurants, Taco Bell reported it sold more than $500 million in $1 menu items in 2017 and that its $5 boxes were responsible for an additional $1 billion in sales, CNBC reported.
Other fast-food chains seem to be following its lead, with McDonald’s reinstating its value menu with items at the $1, $2, and $3 price points and Jack in the Box starting up its own value menu with items priced between $1 and $5, CNBC reported.
Twitter users were very excited about the new offering.
