Taco Cannons to Blast Staple of Life Up to College's Hockey Fans

By    |   Thursday, 23 April 2015 07:03 AM EDT

A taco cannon has been developed by the University of Nebraska-Omaha and local restaurant Voodoo Taco to fire tacos into the upper deck of the school's new hockey arena next season. What could possibly go wrong?

According to KETV in Omaha, Voodoo Taco announced the new invention and partnership via Twitter with the slogan "Someone will take a taco to the face."

"The (University of Nebraska-Omaha) just finished their most successful hockey season in program history: qualifying for the Frozen Four, winning their first NCAA Tournament game, having senior goalie Ryan Massa considered in the Hobey Baker Award conversation," wrote KETV. "The school is scheduled to open a new arena near Aksarben just before the start of UNO's next hockey season."

So why not a taco cannon?

"Presumably the tacos will need to be wrapped up in some form, lest the Taco Cannon just bombard the crowd with tortilla, meat, cheese and maybe some pico de gallo," wrote Ted Berg of USA Today. "But here's hoping the good folks at University of Nebraska-Omaha have uncovered some heretofore unknown properties of taco ballistics that will allow them to fire fully formed hard-shell tacos hundreds – heck, thousands – of feet in the air without injuring either the targets or the tacos."

The reaction to the taco cannon on social media was mixed.
