The "taco cleanse" is the newest diet trend touted by authors who insist that, though weight loss is not guaranteed, your outlook will be "noticeably" improved.

The authors of "The Taco Cleanse: The Tortilla-Based Diet Proven to Change Your Life" do make one major stipulation, however: The tacos must be vegan.

"A taco diet without carnitas is basically a lie, but keep reading if you're not entirely turned off by the vegan rule," San Francisco Chronicle reporter Katie Dowd wrote in her review of the 30-day cleanse.

"Book authors Wes Allison, Stephanie Bogdanich, Molly R. Frisinger, and Jessica Morris offer 75 different taco recipes to help you on your quest for taco enlightenment. The book makes no weight loss promises, but it does promise 'your outlook will be noticeably improved,'" Dowd continued.

The authors, who describe themselves on the taco cleanse website as Austin, Texas-based "taco scientists," said that the diet is one that users can stick to while giving their bodies what they need nutrition-wise.

"Taking the seemingly simple and perfect concept of the taco, this diet re-imagines it to fit every kind of lifestyle," the website states. "The Taco Cleanse will bring all of your levels to new heights and increase your nutrimatter content a thousandfold."

The book's description on Amazon.com says that the plant-based taco cleanse "rewards your body with what it naturally craves: tortillas, refried beans, and guacamole."

"The Taco Cleanse is cheap, easy, and delicious," the description continues. "Its recipes are authentically Austin, and are sometimes even inspired by Mexico, where the taco was first created. Everything tastes better folded (exactly once) into a tortilla."

Some joked online that the "taco cleanse" is nothing new.
