The NFL has instituted a tailgating ban for the 2014 Super Bowl, and fans aren’t too happy.
Al Kelly, the CEO of the Super Bowl committee, announced on Monday that parties in the parking lot would be verboten.

“You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car,”
Kelly said, according to ESPN.com. “And provided you’re in the boundaries of a single car space, you’ll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you’re not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you’re not going to be able to take out a grill, and you’re not going to be able to take up more than one parking space. And it’ll all be watched very carefully.”
Fans are fuming.
But the tailgating ban wasn’t the only thing grating on fans who were looking forward to America’s most popular sporting event.
Super Bowl officials say there will only be 13,000 parking spaces available at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium for fans. Kelly said those who can’t park at the stadium will have only two other options to get to the game, and one of them, via charter buses called Fan Express, will cost $51 to pick up and drop off passengers at nine locations.
Fans also can take NJ Transit, but they can only reach the stadium via vehicles that must have parking passes and that goes for limos and taxis, too. Cars with parking passes cannot leave the stadium once they arrive (though, presumably, they can leave early if the game is a blowout).
And if you’re thinking about walking to the game, forget it. That will be banned, too.
“The main point of the game,” said ESPN commentator Keith Olbermann, is “the NFL doesn’t really want us to go.”
