The world's tallest man and the shortest man met Thursday on Guinness Book of World Records Day, reaching to shake hands over the 83.5 inches that separate them.
Sultan Kosen, from Turkey, is an 8-foot, 9-inch tall farmer; Chandra Bahadur Dangi, from Nepal,
stands 21.5 inches tall, Agence France-Presse reported. It was challenging, Kosen said, to bend so far over to shake hands.
"I was very interested how tall he was going to be, about how far up my legs he would go, and of course once I saw him I realized how tiny he was," he told AFP.
"Even though he is short and I am tall, we have had similar struggles throughout our lives and when I look into Chandra's eyes I can see he is a good man,"
Kosen said in a story on the Guinness World Records website.
The two men were in London for the 10th annual Guinness event, which brought record-holders from around the world. The GWR website also said it was a day when people around the world attempted to break records, and many did so successfully.
"In Shanghai, China, the Guinness World Record title for the most people eating breakfast in bed was smashed," the website said. "A grand total of 388 people congregated in Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai, to tuck in to their morning meal simultaneously, beating the incumbent record by a whopping 99 people."
Other records broken included the largest rice mosaic, the largest line dance (multiple venues), and dancers at the Moulin Rouge in Paris blew away the record for the most simultaneous demi-grand rond de jambe cancan kicks by a single chorus line in 30 seconds, GWR said.
