Taraneh Alidoosti, a star in the movie "The Salesman," said she will boycott the Oscars next month to protest likely curbs on Iranian visas as part of President Donald Trump's "extreme vetting" plans.
"The Salesman,"been nominated for a best foreign language film Academy Award.
The Iranian actress, 33, announced her protest via Twitter on Thursday.
Iran is one of several countries named specifically in a draft executive order that face a ban on their citizens from entering the United States as part of Trump's "extreme vetting" plan, said NBC News. The other countries are Iraq, Libya, Somalia, and Syria. Citizens from Yemen and Sudan would also be included in the ban, said the Washington Post.
Such an executive order, though, has not been officially announced by the Trump administration, noted NBC News.
The draft order, which was reportedly leaked to a civil rights group on Wednesday and obtained by the Post, also called for the immediate end of Syrian refugee resettlement in the United States.
"The Salesman," directed by Academy Award-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, was seen at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
As the film's director, Farhadi would have four tickets for the awards show on Feb. 26, said NBC News, but it wasn't clear if Farhadi had planned to bring Alidoosti.
The response to Alidoosti's boycott has been mixed on social media.
