VH1 Tattoo Parlor Disfigured Me, Black Ink Client Claims

By    |   Tuesday, 14 April 2015 07:19 PM EDT

A New York woman says a tattoo from a Harlem parlor featured on a VH1 reality show has left her disfigured.

Asabi Barner told WPIX-TV she went to the Black Ink tattoo parlor, featured on the VH1 show "Black Ink Crew," to cover up a unicorn and horseshoe tattoo she got when she was 18 since the parlor claims to be the best at tattooing on African-American skin.

At first she was pleased with the work, but the next morning her skin reportedly began to ooze with pus and she remains in pain a year later, she told the station. She applies an ice pack daily to her skin, which is raised, and burns and itches. A plastic surgeon told her surgery would worsen the scar.

“In the intimate moments, it creates a problem because you don’t have that confidence. I wasn’t overly confident before, but I felt good about myself. Felt good about my body, but it just changes you,” Barner told WPIX.

Barner said a tattoo artist in South Carolina told her skin was overworked in trying to bring out the white color in the design.

She is suing the tattoo parlor claiming they were reckless, careless, and negligent.
