"You are terminated" has replaced "You're fired" as the new elimination catchphrase on "The New Celebrity Apprentice," but action star Arnold Schwarzenegger added a twist on Monday's show.
YouTube personality Carrie Keagan became the first contestant on the show to hear the new catchphrase, born out of Schwarzenegger's "The Terminator" science fiction movie that led to a franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But the star's fans also recognized a nod to another action movie – 1987's "Predator."
"You're terminated. Get to the chopper," Schwarzenegger told Keagan and Carnie Wilson later in the episode. "Get to the chopper" was taken after one of the battle scene in the "Predator" movie, The Hollywood Reporter noted.
Now president-elect Donald Trump made the "You're fired" catchphrase part of television reality show lore over 14 seasons on "The Apprentice." Buzz about the new catchphrase was all the talk, according to TV Guide writer Malcolm Venable.
"The real question is, what's Arnold's version of 'You're fired?' … 'Twas the catchphrase heard around the reality TV world, since Arnold's kiss-off was the subject of much debate and a highly guarded secret from the producers and network," Venable wrote for TV Guide. "Now that it's out, the new question is: Will 'you're terminated' become as much a staple of pop culture as its predecessor? We mean, more than it already has?"
The Daily Beast said Tuesday that the "new host Arnold Schwarzenegger's verbose and self-referential catchphrase, 'You're terminated. Now get to the chopper!' will enter the lexicon of American reality-TV viewership."
The new catchphrase appeared to be a hit on social media.
