Tesla Motors has confirmed that its forthcoming Model X SUV will be produced in early 2015 as initially projected, making good on the $5,000 to $40,000 deposits some buyers put down two years ago.

"Falcon wing doors, all-wheel drive, and the most stylish way to combine an SUV’s utility with a sports car's performance. Model X will be a production car that exceeds the promises made when we first showed the concept," the Silicon Valley startup wrote in an email to the reservation holders, according to TechCrunch.

"With the Model X, the gull-wing doors were the marquee feature of the concept car and, surprisingly, will be the marquee feature of the production car," the publication wrote, focusing on the feature that originally created buzz for the new model.

According to Forbes, the electric car maker has remained silent about the batteries in the SUV, but tech insiders suspect they will be comparable to those in Tesla's Model S, which get up to 265 miles on one charge.

Production prototypes are expected to emerge later this year, at which time details about the forthcoming SUV should begin to solidify. Previous mockups for the X, for example, replaced side mirrors with cameras — making for an exceedingly sleek look — but are unlikely to grace the final production model due to federal regulations. Users, however, will always hold out hope until they see the real thing.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has in the past pointed out that the company's second mass-produced vehicle will double the company's product lineup, and continue to acquaint customers with the relatively new brand.

He's also said that the market for the Model X SUV could be larger than that of the company's Model S car. He estimates that global demand for each could eventually reach 50,000 units.
