"The Bachelorette" concluded on ABC with a three-hour episode that saw Rachel Lindsay get engaged to Bryan Abasolo, but second place Peter Kraus's presence cast a long shadow on the couple.
Lindsay, 32, a lawyer from Dallas, ended things with Kraus, 31, a Wisconsin business owner, after he said he could not propose to someone he has only known for six weeks, The Washington Post reported.
Their impasse dominated the final show, while Abasolo waited in the wings, noted the Post.
"My fear is that, OK, you don't propose and I agree to just date you and be committed to you," Lindsay told Kraus, according to the Post. "What guarantee do I have that it's ever gonna leave that stage? Because my past has shown me that it won't.
"I'm in this because I want someone who wants what I want. I want someone who wants to move towards marriage. And my fear is you don't have that same level of commitment," Lindsay continued.
But Kraus could not bring himself to propose, saying, according to the Post, "I'm sorry that it's taking me this long, but I'm not able to act on impulse."
Abasolo, 37, though, had no problem proposing and Lindsay accepted. The Miami chiropractor and the show's star "seem genuinely happy," despite reliving the Lindsay-Krauss episode, the Post noted.
Fox News reported that Abasolo re-proposed to Lindsay in front of a studio audience and said that they may get married over the winter. They added, though, that they wanted to get to know each other away from the cameras before walking the aisle, Fox News noted.
While many on social media supported Kraus's position, some enjoyed the pure drama of the episode.
