A picture of an off-the-rack dress has gone so viral that it broke Internet traffic records on Thursday.
Simultaneously, the dress has polarized the nation; some say the dress is blue and black, while others say it looks white and gold. Whatever you see, its recommended you ask at least a couple of friends, as one is bound to disagree with you.
BuzzFeed, an authority in viral news,
reported that never has there been so many visitors on its site at one time.
"The BuzzFeed post about THE DRESS is breaking the Internet and setting new traffic records for us," wrote the editors. "It drew more visitors to our site at one time than ever before. At one point tonight, more than 670,000 people were on BuzzFeed.com simultaneously, 500K of those on mobile, and half of those reading the dress post."
According to multiple reports, the saga of the dress that broke the Internet began on the Scottish Isle of Colonsay.
"What happened was two of my close friends were actually getting married and the mother of the bride took a photo of the dress to send to her daughter," singer Caitlin McNeill, lead singer of the band Canach,
told Business Insider. "When my friend showed the dress to her fiancé, they disagreed on the color."
McNeill then posted to her social media accounts, asking her peers to weigh in on what colors they saw.
From there, it was shared an exponential number of times, and soon caught the eyes of celebrities like Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian, who asked their millions of fans to weigh in.
A day later, reporters confirmed that the dress was in fact blue and black, and that it was now in extremely high demand.
