'The Walking Dead' Fan Pulls Zombie Prank on Show's Star

"The Walking Dead" ultimate fan, Nick Santonastasso, recently had the opportunity to meet one lead cast member and scare the living daylights out of another on the hit AMC show.

Santonastasso, a 17-year-old from New Jersey who was born with only one arm and no legs because of the rare genetic disorder Hanhart syndrome, had apparently written the show requesting that he be allowed to appear as an extra in the form of a zombie in one episode.

Santonastasso had some experience in scaring people, having videotaped himself in public places rolling up on unsuspecting individuals as if he were a zombie on a skateboard while making a blood curdling scream mimicking the sound made by zombies on "The Walking Dead." The videos, seen below, have since gone viral.

Helped along by a petition, Santonastasso’s request was answered, but rather than appearing as just another make-up covered dead person, "The Walking Dead" crew arranged a special scenario in which he could scare lead cast member Norman Reedus, who on the series plays the back-country, archery-loving tough guy Daryl Dixon, CNET.com reported.

Santonastasso was flown to Tokyo with his parents where he met Greg Nicotero, the executive producer, director, and special effects makeup designer for "The Walking Dead," as well as the show’s lead actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays former sheriff and current patriarch Rick Grimes.

After receiving the professional makeup job of his life, Santonastasso was placed inside a covered food cart in a hotel room where Reedus was to give an interview. His parents along with Nicotero and Lincoln watched from an adjacent hotel room courtesy of a hidden camera.

After Reedus sat for the interview, the interviewer left the room for a few minutes, leaving the actor by himself with Santonastasso just feet away. Once given the go ahead by Lincoln, the 17-year-old leaped from beneath the cart, causing Reedus to yell and nearly jump out of his seat.

"Good job man, that was awesome," Reedus told Santonastasso after initially letting out an expletive.

Reedus subsequently reached over to hug Santonastasso, telling him that he’s a fan of his video pranks and has shared them online himself.

"I already know about you, I’ve already blasted you out to the planet," Reedus added, before telling Santonastasso, "Good job you jerk."

The fourth season of the "The Walking Dead" will premiere Sunday, Feb. 9.
