Third Eye Blind infuriated concert-goers from the Republican National Convention during a charity concert at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
Frontman Stephan Jenkins repeatedly drew boos from the crowd as he expressed his displeasure with conservative views, showed support for things like gay rights, and didn't play many of the band's hits,
Cleveland.com reported.
"You can boo all you want, but I'm the motherf****** artist up here," Jenkins said.
In introducing the band's hit song "Jumper," about a gay man committing suicide, Jenkins said he wished the Republican Party would welcome gay people "into the American fabric,"
Billboard reported.
He later taunted the crowd by saying, "Raise your hand if you believe in science."
In 2012, Jenkins
wrote an article for The Huffington Post explaining why the band declined to play for the RNC that year.
"The Republican party is on the wrong side of Lilly Ledbetter, fiscal responsibility, unions, civil rights, climate change, evolution, the Big Bang theory, stem cells, Medicare, and me, and that’s why we will let them be, in their government-funded event center, to sell their song and dance without me," Jenkins wrote.
The concert was hosted by the Recording Industry Association of America and AT&T.
Twitter users posted mixed reactions to news of the concert.
