Tim Tebow Witnessed Aaron Hernandez Bar Fight in College Days

Tim Tebow reportedly tried to break up a 2007 fight between his then-University of Florida teammate Aaron Hernandez and a bouncer at a bar, a police report shows.

Hernandez was just a 17-year-old freshman in 2007 when he got into an altercation at a bar in Gainesville, Fla. According to the report, a waitress brought Hernandez two alcoholic drinks, which he consumed but refused to pay for. When the bouncer approached him, Hernandez reportedly punched him in the head and busted his eardrum.

Police interviewed Tebow and another teammate about the fight.

"Tebow stated that he witnessed the dispute," the officer wrote in the report. "Tebow stated that he went over to try to help resolve the conflict."

No charges were ever filed, though it's not clear why because Hernandez's juvenile record is sealed.

Hernandez, now 23, is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection to the shooting death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, 27. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

Hernandez is also being investigated for his possible role in a double homicide in Boston in July 2012, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

John Hevesy, who was Hernandez's positional coach at the University of Florida, said he and Tebow were close at one time, though they were very different from one another.

"Tim struggled with [others'] immaturity, like, 'Why aren't you doing this the way I do it?' Kids are kids. I think it's not as much Aaron as it was Timmy," Hevesy told ESPN.com. "Timmy was a very mature 18-year-old. If you take a poll of 10 18-year-olds, 'What are first three things on your mind?' OK, first is going to be women, second's going be this, and third's going got be this. Tim's going to be, 'Well, God, God, and God.' Were they still close? Yes. But I think 18-year-olds want to do what 18-year-olds want to do, and Tim was more of a 22-year-old."

Hernandez and Tebow were supposed to be reunited this season after the New England Patriots signed Tebow last month, but the team dropped Hernandez shortly after his arrest.
