Tippi Hedren Mourns 'Birds' Co-Star Rod Taylor, Dead at 84

Tippi Hedren, who battled swarms of vicious birds in Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 film "The Birds," is mourning Rod Taylor, her Australian-born co-star who died in Los Angeles.

Taylor's daughter announced his death on a fan website, reported Reuters.

Taylor, who would have been 85 on Sunday, died at home after suffering a fall two weeks ago, the website said.

"Rod was a great pal to me and a real strength. We were very, very good friends," said 84-year-old Hedren, according to AFP.

"He was one of the most fun people I have ever met, thoughtful and classy, there was everything good in that man."

Taylor's first leading role was in the 1960 film version of the H.G. Wells classic "The Time Machine," but he was best known for co-starring in the Hitchcock film about a massive bird attack on a small northern California coastal town.

Taylor also appeared in "The Train Robbers" and, most recently, in a cameo role as the late British wartime leader Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards."
