Tom Brady is empathizing with the sports radio WEEI host who made disparaging remarks about his 5-year-old daughter during a recent discussion on the station about the "Tom vs. Time" documentary.
WEEI host Alex Reimer was suspended for Super Bowl week after he called Brady's daughter "an annoying little pissant," prompting the New England Patriots quarterback to re-evaluate his future with the station, ESPN noted.
However, in an interview with the Boston Herald's Steve Buckley, Brady has said he hopes that Reimer does not lose his job over the incident.
"I would certainly hope the guy is not fired," Brady said, according to The Score.
"I would hate for that to happen," he added.
The remark comes a day after Brady, who will lead the Patriots in Super Bowl LII against the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 4, cut his weekly interview short on WEEI.
"I've tried to come on this show for many years and showed you guys a lot of respect," Brady told "Kirk and Callahan Show" co-host Kirk Minihane on Monday, according to ESPN. "I've always tried and come on and do a good job for you guys. It's very disappointing when you hear [the comments about my daughter], certainly. My daughter, or any child, certainly don't deserve that."
Brady said he was reconsidering his regularly guest appearances on the show, making it clear that he was not prepared to continue the interview on Monday morning.
"Maybe I'll speak with you guys some other time," he said before putting the phone down.
The feud comes a week after it was revealed that WEEI's parent company, Entercom, was entering into a multiyear partnership extension with the Patriots.
The company noted that the agreement included broadcasting rights of "Patriot Monday" and "Patriot Friday" which would be "headlined by five-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady," according to ESPN.
The rocky relationship is the least of Brady's concerns as he and the New England Patriots prepare to chase their sixth Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, The New York Post noted.
If the Patriots were to defeat the Eagles, Brady would make history as the first quarterback in the history of NFL to lead the NFL in passing yards and to win the Lombardi trophy in the same year, CBS News said.
Amid the mounting pressure, Brady had a fitting message for a crowd that had gathered outside Gillette Stadium on Monday morning to send the Patriots off.
"We love you. Patriots out!" he said before literally dropping the mic and walking off, Boston.com reported.
